The approach
Large fluctuations in monetary growth have major effects on asset prices and company balance sheets. Everyone involved in investment and corporate strategy needs to be warned about them in advance. Our approach is to analyse bank balance sheets and the determinants of credit demand, in order to anticipate big swings in money growth. Mortgage credit - which typically amounts to half of all bank lending - is watched closely.
